‘In hindsight’
Have you thought about who would manage your affairs if you lost capacity?
‘In hindsight’ is a phrase we Solicitors too often hear from our clients. Lasting Powers of Attorney (LPA) are often considered by people far too late in life. Have you thought about who would manage your affairs if you lost capacity? By completing a Lasting Power of Attorney, you can appoint the attorney(s) of your choice to deal with your decisions in the event that you are unable to. There are two types of LPA: Property and Financial as well as Health and Welfare.
Should you lose capacity without an LPA, the legal process for your loved ones to have the right to handle your affairs is both lengthy and costly. Many cases at the Court of Protection run into costs of thousands of pounds before someone is appointed on your behalf. You can easily avoid this unnecessary burden on your family by preparing an LPA whilst you are still able to make the decision for yourself.
At UTK we have set fees for preparing your LPAs. You don’t have to be elderly to consider making one either; we have clients of all ages who have planned for the future by preparing an LPA.
